Tour description
The bike tour starts just outside the city, yet it immediately plunges you into a pretty scenery of high mountains covered in pine and larch. A long a gradual ascent brings you to the short but steep climb to two consecutive passes at 1850m. The following fast descent brings us to a lush riverside full of dacha style holiday camps. We cross the river and cycle into a wild area that marks the southern edge of the Siberian mountain forest eco-system. Only a few nomadic yurts can be seen as we make our way up the valley. This wild part of the country is home to bear, wolf, lynx and boar who roam the depths of the park but as well herbivores such as elk, roe deer and red deer not to mention the many fur animals typical to boreal forest. You will still need to preserve energy for the afternoon to climb to the highest point of the ride at 1900 meters. Breathtaking views of distant mountains of Siberia open from the top of the pass. A long and exciting downhill is followed by fast riding on easy terrain across a wide-open valley dotted with mushroom like homes of nomadic herders and thousands of livestock. Upon finishing the ride, we load bikes and drive back to Ulaanbaatar.
